there were two things i was certain of when i got engaged
the guy i was going to marry
and that there would be mason jars at my wedding
lots of them
everything else seemed to fall into place
around all the mason jars of course
...and then came baby...

donate an old bridesmaid dress or formal gown to help a sister out!

i've been battling a stubborn head cold the past few days, but i've really wanted to let all you new york chiquitas know about the dress drive going on this weekend. operation prom has teamed up with 57grand to offer a 10% discount towards any 57grand purchase with the donation of one of your old prom or bridesmaid dresses. go here for a list of all drop off locations.

and don't you fret if you're not a new yorker! you can still participate! operation prom has locations throughout the country (see where here).

i love the idea of donating an old gown (that you will most likely NEVER wear again) to a girl in need for her prom day. god, remember prom? that was about 42 years ago for me, or at least it feels that way, but i can still remember how exciting/daunting it was to find "the dress". now imagine if you didn't have the finances to buy a dress or the fun accessories to go along with it? i know there are far bigger problems in the world, but frankly, a gal should get to dress up for her prom if she wants to.

i first heard about this idea back when i lived in san francisco when i got an email from the princess project. they started in the bay area and branched out to a few other california locations. i had always wanted to donate, but all my dresses were stored in my parent's basement back on the east coast. now i have no excuse.

it's the perfect time to donate those unused dresses and bring a smile to a young girl's face. add it to your spring cleaning list. out with the old, in with the new. you catch my drift?

oh happy day: 70 degrees please

it's amazing how the weather has a tendency to consume conversations. "nasty out there, huh?" or my favorite "gorgeous day, isn't it?"

finally, FINALLY, there's been a lot of the latter today.

it is absolutely beautiful here in new york and i think all of us manhattanites deserve to truly enjoy it after the winter we've had.

a year ago, i would've been looking for the best place to sit outside & sip an ice cold beer. nowadays, me and the bambino would settle for an ice cold slushie. we're in luck as the kelvin slush truck will be open this sunday (as a soft opening) and officially open for the season on april 1st. the best part, if you can make it out this sunday, is that 100% of all proceeds will go to the red cross to aid in the relief in japan.

unique flavors + all natural ingredients + sunshine = deliciousness in a cup!

it's amazing how a little splash of color can turn around a monday...

sure it's monday and just barely forty degrees outside, but it's sunny!

it's the little things, as they say, and these little fluorescent cross-body handbags i spotted in the kate spade window display got me giddy for spring!

they come in 2 adorable sizes...small and smaller

while it's probably irresponsible for me to splurge on one of these beauties now that we've got diapers to save up for, there's no harm in looking or, better yet, for any of you to add to your collection!

happy shopping!

splash of color: calm, blue decor makes for sweet, blue dreams

sky blue. sea blue. blue.

it's calming & makes me want to take a nap, which is exactly why i think it would be a perfect color in the bedroom.

i don't know about you, but i tend to spend much more time decorating our living space while the bedroom is left as an afterthought. i suppose it makes a bit of sense as those are the areas that most visitors will see, but we spend so much time in our bedroom that it deserves a little attention too!

we're moving in just a couple of months & i plan to focus just as much attention on the bedroom if not more this time around.

i L-O-V-E the last photo with the subtle horizontal stripes. i think it would be a fantastic addition to any wall, especially a nursery. check out this helpful step-by-step process hgtv has put together on how to paint stripes. anyone try this out at home?
