there were two things i was certain of when i got engaged
the guy i was going to marry
and that there would be mason jars at my wedding
lots of them
everything else seemed to fall into place
around all the mason jars of course
...and then came baby...

green is the new black: eco-friendly wedding ideas

{nicole miller via preowned wedding dresses}

{herb centerpieces via snippet and ink}

{estate ring via dover jewelry}

{all-in-one plantable invite via greenfield paper}

weddings can not only be tough on the wallet, but they can also be quite harsh on the environment.

it can get a little overwhelming to try to make every element of your wedding eco-friendly, but i thought i'd share some ways to soften the blow to mother nature. be sure to add your ideas in the comment section!

all-in-one plantable invitations, or better yet, send an electronic invite

minimize the amount of vehicles going to & from your location by organizing transportation

donate leftover food

use herbs or plants as centerpieces that guests can take home & plant

choose an antique/estate engagement ring

recycle a pre-owned wedding dress or borrow your mom's!

use organic or locally grown flowers for your ceremony & reuse at the reception

register for only what you need ~ less items = less packaging & less gas used to ship

I am loving this blog! So many wonderful ideas. One of my friends used plantable namecards as her namecards/favor from www.catinthebathtubpress.com. They were simple, yet wonderful.

And, of course, another "green" idea would be having a open-air tent wedding. I have been to two tent weddings now, and both were FABULOUS! Bugs were a bit of an issue at one, but the other they were not. The bride & groom included citronella bug spray in the restrooms. It worked wonders!!!

I just realized that this website is no longer working. So here's another site that offers something similar...

We used each of these ideas for our wedding (except for the preowned wedding dress even though I was on preownedweddingdresses every day - I just couldn't find "the one"). What is so great about each of these ideas is that instead of seeming over-the-top hippy eco green crazy is that they instead give a sense of personalization. Even if something might cost a few more bucks (I'm looking at YOU seeded paper invitations), in the end it is nice to have something unique and environmentally conscious. Great blog!
